Tour of Asia in a New York Minute

3 Apr

With the unrest in Thailand and acts of war in Korea, an Asian tour seems less than advisable at this time. Fortunately for you, the Far East is still very accessible to all, without leaving the island of Manhattan. Last weekend I was on a trip through Asia with nothing but my MTA subway map and an empty stomach. Then I told the tour that begins deep in Southeast Asia, is on his way to Thailand, Vietnam, China, and ends in Japan. First, on Friday evening in Malaysia.

What more could you ask for a Friday night outside a couple of PBR and a couple of crabs? Not what you – I think I am speaking on Fatty Crab menu. The Hoppin ‘Crab Shack West Village is as narrow as a can of jumbo lump meat, but the amount of beer, the fuel is poured on Hudson Street does not seem to care. Pelacchio Chef Zak combines the flavors of Malaysia – as an inspiration to the to borrow the rest of Southeast Asia – some of the finest foods in the Asian-inspired road to create this side of Singapore. I could not resist the soft shell crab in green curry was … hot as hell and simply delicious.

to increase the next morning – with my tongue still in flames and the temperature – I was Madison Square Park for some sun. And if I’m in Gramercy, I always make a point to go through my favorite store-Bahn, Baoguette. This small sandwich shop specializing in sub Vietnamese pork, cilantro, cheese, pickles, pie and jalapenos. Served on a crusty loaf of French bread, they offer little too sweet, sour and salty all in one bite, and ensure the perfect lunch on the road. Moving from Vietnam, dinner in the evening I led the warm shores of Thailand, by way of Ludlow Street.

Eatpisode is a right, cozy, candlelit Thai joint strength of the LES, so that there is a point before the game, one night. I have some friends, six-pack in the trailer (this BYOB place) and went into the menu purus. With five different types of curry, fried rice myriads, Pad Thai, and all kinds of sweet, spicy, salty, sour and snacks, is cooking some of the best Thai outside of Thailand. My taste buds were jumping off the green curry last night – I could not resist and went with the green curry chicken. While the coconut milk and lemongrass, the heat lowered compared with the crab last night, the dish still packed a punch … What causes Six Pack down all the faster.

With my wallet (and in my opinion) suffer from the night before I went to China (town) looking for a cheap lunch. What I found was probably the best meal I ever had for under $ 5. Hidden beneath the Manhattan Bridge, Xi’An famous food fight is a small portion of noodles flavored HUGE. Unlike other restaurants in the area, specializing in Chinese cuisine Western Xi’An, you do not find a grain of rice means here. The kitchen of Xi’An is marked by a strong influence in the Middle East and a lot of spices. My recommendation: noodles cumin lamb. These two mechanisms are the noodles are so fresh as she loves and a necessity for all, the spicy food … as black iced tea to remove the heat.

Sunday night was my stomach starts Fried rice noodles and all of his hard hit … Light was in order. While walking from the indulgence of the weekend along Front Street and literally stumbled SUteiSHI. The floor to ceiling doors of this sushi joint open right port on the sidewalk, a very cool experience, relaxing dinner … and unobstructed view of the Brooklyn Bridge. While urging the young, carefree people working a good job alcohol, edamame and Japanese standard fare, do not let you stop it. the implementation of the chef is on site and the use of high-quality ingredients – like fat salmon roll (where the belly of the fish meat is used to create a soft, rich texture) – SUteiSHI increase beyond any sushi bar type in the area.

So there you have it. A tour through Asia on a weekend and at a fraction of the price of a real journey. While I am in no way prevent them from you is willing, in the East, which is always good to know he feels a taste of the exotic in your own backyard to travel.
